行业实习——Sophya

大家好！这周我打算为自己的博客增加一种新观点。我想要听听蓝山其他硕士生的反馈，尤其是关于他们的行业实习的感想。
目前我还没有开始自己的行业实习，所以我和同是蓝山学生的我的朋友Sophya谈了谈，她目前正在位于悉尼中央商务区的香格里拉酒店（Shangri-La Hotel）担任餐饮部顾客服务助理。
Sophya也在蓝山悉尼校区学习，她是俄罗斯人。我们都是于2013年1月开始了自己的硕士课程学习，这也是我们如何相遇并变成亲密朋友的原因。过去一年中我们一直都是室友，大家一起生活和上课实在是太有趣了！
作为学业的一部分，所有蓝山学生都必须进行行业实习。Sophya于去年12月份在五星级酒店香格里拉的餐饮部的宴会厅开始了自己的带薪行业实习。这对于她而言是一个全新的职位，所以她必须学习很多东西，但是她非常享受这些挑战和所获得的经历。
在实习期间，她从宴会部转到了香格里拉的高级餐厅Altitude Restaurant。她能够在一个新的餐饮领域进行培训，这将会帮助她扩展自身的精致餐饮服务知识。
就像在蓝山一样，Sophya通过自己新的职业生活交到了很多新朋友，她也希望等7月份自己的课程重新开始后，能够继续在那里进行兼职工作。
据Sophya所言，行业实习最棒的一部分就是“……这是我开启职业生涯的最佳方式。你能获得与酒店当中拥有各种技能并接受过各种培训的专业人士交流的机会。在行业实习期间你能够将你从课堂中学到的理论知识应用到实践当中。你需要使自己沉浸在真实的工作环境当中。”

Industry Placement – Sophya

Hey everyone! This week I decided to get a new perspective for my blog. I wanted to hear from other students in the masters program at BMIHMS and in particular about their industry placement (IP).
I haven’t started my IP yet so I talked to my friend and fellow BMIHMS student Sophya who is currently doing her internship as a ‘Food and Beverage Customer Service Associate’ at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney CBD.
Sophya also studies here in Sydney but she is originally from Russia. We both began the Masters program in January 2013, which is how we met and became close friends. We have been roommates for the past year and it has been a lot of fun living and going to classes together.
All BMIHMS students must do an IP or internship as part of their degree. Sophya began her paid placement in December in the banqueting section of the Food and Beverage department at the 5-star hotel, Shangri-La. It was a new role for her so there was a lot to learn, but she enjoyed the challenges and experience she gained.
During the placement she was able to transfer from Banquets to theAltitude Restaurant, Shangri-La’s fine-dining restaurant. Being able to train in a new area of food and beverage will expand her knowledge of fine-dining service.
Like at BMIHMS, Sophya has made a lot of new friends through her new working life and is hoping to continue working there part-time when her classes resume in July.
According to Sophya the best thing about IP is “. . . that it is a perfect way to start my career. You get the opportunity to meet professional people from all over the hotel with various expertise and training. During the IP you are able to use your theoretical knowledge from classes and put it into practical use. You get to immerse yourself into a real working environment.”

蓝山硕士生之在悉尼工作！

作为一名硕士生，在澳洲学习酒店专业，在酒店兼职是我的职业生涯的完美开端。
如今，我正在环形码头（Circular Quay）悉尼港万豪酒店（Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel）前厅工作。
我是一名“随时为您服务”专员，起着交流沟通的作用，在酒店幕后工作以支持顾客服务。
我的职责涉及内外部的电话、邮件和传真管理。我经常监管便利设施的使用情况、客房服务订单和顾客投诉。
自6个月前开始这份工作到现在我已经学到了很多。作为一名“随时为您服务”专员，你必须能够回答内部顾客或外部访客可能提出的任何问题。因此我必须对酒店的方方面面都了如指掌。这是一个极具挑战性和让人收获良多的职位。除了我在酒店所学到的所有知识和技能，我还通过在万豪酒店工作交到了很多很棒的朋友。
我根据自己的签证规定做兼职，当然我也省出了很多时间来学习。国际学生签证允许我每两周工作40小时。很幸运万豪为我提供了很多轮班的机会，让我能够有机会兼职。每次的轮班都是8小时，有30分钟进餐时间。更长时间的轮班使我能够在一次轮班当中积累更多的小时，同时还能让我更好地安排好自己的学生时间表。万豪也是我将要进行行业实习的酒店，到那时我就能够在这里全职工作了。
我在万豪酒店的许多同事都是我们蓝山国际酒店管理学院（Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School, BMIHMS）的校友或在校生。蓝山与这家酒店拥有良好的合作关系，这也是为什么大量的学生都选择在这里工作的原因。其实我在蓝山悉尼校区举办的毕业生特权伙伴展览会（GPP Expo）上见到万豪酒店的人力资源经理之后，我就去了悉尼港万豪酒店面试。到目前为止我所经历的每一件事情都是一次非常棒的经历！

Working in Sydney

As a postgraduate student, studying hospitality in Australia, working in a hotel part-time is a perfect start to my career.
I am currently working in the front office at the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel in Circular Quay.
I am an ‘At Your Service’ agent which is essentially a communications role working back of house to support guest services.
This role involves the management of phone calls, emails, and faxes both internally and externally. I am often overseeing amenity requests, room service orders, and guest complaints.
I’ve learned a lot since I started this position 6 months ago. As an ‘At Your Service’ agent you need to be able to answer any questions that in-house guests or external callers could ask. Thus I have to be well informed on all aspects of the hotel. It is a challenging and rewarding position. Besides all that I have learned, I have made some great friends through working at Marriott.
I work part-time in accordance with my visa regulations and to enable plenty of time to study. International student visas allow me to work 40 hours over two weeks. Luckily the Marriott gives me plenty of shifts to fulfil my hours. Each shift is 8 hours long with a 30 minute meal break. Working longer shifts allows me to accumulate the most hours in one shift and works great with my student timetable. The Marriott is also were I will undertake my Industry Placement, at which time I will be able to work full-time hours.
Many of my colleagues at the Marriott are alumni or current students of theBlue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS). BMIHMS has a great relationship with this hotel which is why plenty of students choose to work there. I actually got my interview at the Sydney Harbour Marriott after meeting one of their HR managers at a GPP expo held at the BMIHMS Sydney campus. So far everything has been a great experience!

悉尼校区令人难忘的第二学期学习！

大家好！我是Sarah。我又开始写博客啦，我在蓝山悉尼校区度过了令人兴奋的学术学期。7月份我将在悉尼港万豪酒店（Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel）前厅开始自己6个月的行业实习。完成这次带薪实习后我就会完成我的国际酒店管理硕士学位的学习并准备毕业。
在这个学期期间我一直都在进行一个独立研究项目。这对于我的硕士学位毕业论文至关重要。如今我正处于收集过去的研究论文并归纳总结出对研究所选课题适用的方法论的阶段。
在我不忙于研究策略时，我就会去上一门叫做全球商务会展的选修课。我是在这学期初上的，然而我发觉这门课程非常有趣，尤其是当通过全球案例研究来讨论商务会展行业时。
这学期我选修的两门课在课堂上课的时间很少，大部分时间都是在进行课外讲座。分配好自己的时间对我而言十分重要。目前我认为我在平衡学习、工作和在悉尼的生活这方面做得非常好。每个学期都有新的课程表和新的职责，我都必须做出相应适当的调整保持我各方面的协调性。
我对毕业充满了期待，我非常享受我当前的生活，我也对我的工作生活感到十分满意！

Term 2 at Sydney Campus
May 13th, 2014
Hi, it’s Sarah. Blogging again and excited about my last academic term at the BMIHMS Sydney campus. In July I will be starting my 6-month industry placement (or internship) at the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel in front office. After I complete this paid training I will have completed my Masters degree in International Hotel Management and will be ready to graduate.
Throughout this term I have been working on an Independent Research Project. This is essentially my ‘final thesis’ paper for my Masters degree. Right now I am in the process of gathering past research papers and formulating my own methodology to conduct my own research on my selected topic.
When not working on research strategies I am taking an elective subject called Global Business Events. Its early in the term, however I am finding the class interesting especially as the business events industry is discussed through worldwide case studies.
The two subjects I am taking this term have fewer hours spent in the classroom, but many more hours spent outside of lectures. It is important for me to manage my time well. As of right now I think I am doing a good job of balancing study, work, and Sydney life. Each term brings a new timetable and new responsibilities, at which time I make the necessary adjustments to stay organised.
The anticipation of graduation is building, as much as I am enjoying my current life, working life is looking good as well.
