行业实习——Sophya

大家好!这周我打算为自己的博客增加一种新观点。我想要听听蓝山其他硕士生的反馈,尤其是关于他们的行业实习的感想。
目前我还没有开始自己的行业实习,所以我和同是蓝山学生的我的朋友Sophya谈了谈,她目前正在位于悉尼中央商务区的香格里拉酒店(Shangri-La Hotel)担任餐饮部顾客服务助理。
Sophya也在蓝山悉尼校区学习,她是俄罗斯人。我们都是于2013年1月开始了自己的硕士课程学习,这也是我们如何相遇并变成亲密朋友的原因。过去一年中我们一直都是室友,大家一起生活和上课实在是太有趣了!
作为学业的一部分,所有蓝山学生都必须进行行业实习。Sophya于去年12月份在五星级酒店香格里拉的餐饮部的宴会厅开始了自己的带薪行业实习。这对于她而言是一个全新的职位,所以她必须学习很多东西,但是她非常享受这些挑战和所获得的经历。
在实习期间,她从宴会部转到了香格里拉的高级餐厅Altitude Restaurant。她能够在一个新的餐饮领域进行培训,这将会帮助她扩展自身的精致餐饮服务知识。
就像在蓝山一样,Sophya通过自己新的职业生活交到了很多新朋友,她也希望等7月份自己的课程重新开始后,能够继续在那里进行兼职工作。
据Sophya所言,行业实习最棒的一部分就是“……这是我开启职业生涯的最佳方式。你能获得与酒店当中拥有各种技能并接受过各种培训的专业人士交流的机会。在行业实习期间你能够将你从课堂中学到的理论知识应用到实践当中。你需要使自己沉浸在真实的工作环境当中。”

Industry Placement – Sophya

Hey everyone! This week I decided to get a new perspective for my blog. I wanted to hear from other students in the masters program at BMIHMS and in particular about their industry placement (IP).
I haven’t started my IP yet so I talked to my friend and fellow BMIHMS student Sophya who is currently doing her internship as a ‘Food and Beverage Customer Service Associate’ at the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney CBD.
Sophya also studies here in Sydney but she is originally from Russia. We both began the Masters program in January 2013, which is how we met and became close friends. We have been roommates for the past year and it has been a lot of fun living and going to classes together.
All BMIHMS students must do an IP or internship as part of their degree. Sophya began her paid placement in December in the banqueting section of the Food and Beverage department at the 5-star hotel, Shangri-La. It was a new role for her so there was a lot to learn, but she enjoyed the challenges and experience she gained.
During the placement she was able to transfer from Banquets to theAltitude Restaurant, Shangri-La’s fine-dining restaurant. Being able to train in a new area of food and beverage will expand her knowledge of fine-dining service.
Like at BMIHMS, Sophya has made a lot of new friends through her new working life and is hoping to continue working there part-time when her classes resume in July.
According to Sophya the best thing about IP is “. . . that it is a perfect way to start my career. You get the opportunity to meet professional people from all over the hotel with various expertise and training. During the IP you are able to use your theoretical knowledge from classes and put it into practical use. You get to immerse yourself into a real working environment.”
